Turquoise Inlaid Buddha Head

This is a fantabulous Buddha Head paved with turquoise stones representing the calm expression of Buddha. This is hand-carved by one of our most skilled woodcarvers in Bhaktapur and later embroidered with stone. 

The Buddha's head resembles a young and charming Buddha that radiates calmness and composure in meditative stillness. He is always smiling depicting eternal happiness for the Buddha has surpassed the sufferings of the world and or having it in the living space will invoke peaceful and harmonious energy into the atmosphere to help with calmness.     

Generally, the Buddha head statues are depicted with a protruding head, which symbolizes the disconnection between the mind and body. Such a state is also known as Bodhisattva. Similarly, Buddha's heads are known to have another protuberance, on the top of the Buddha's head, known as Ushinisha, which is a three dimensional oval at the top. The Ushnisha represents the attainment of the Buddha's enlighten and his reliance on the spiritual guide, though the original function of the Ushnisha may have been represented as a crown on a Buddha's head.

The facial structure of the BUddha's head usually have half-closed eyes which shows a state of meditation: looking inward into the self as well as outward. The faint smile on the statue also depicts the serene nature and nobility of the Buddha after attaining enlightenment. A dot between the eyes, or the urna, is also another peculiar feature of the Buddha's head. This round tuft of hair between the eyebrows symbolizes the supernatural vision of the Buddha. Though elongated earles in Buddha's heads represent the BUddha's hearing power which is believed that he hears what is needed in the world, the exact reason behind is elongated earlobes may be due to the vestiges of his life as a prince, when he wore extravagant and heavy jewellery and earrings on his ear.
