

Magnificiently hand carved Astamangal window
This is a beautiful wooden window hand carved with the eight astamatrika symbols (8 auspicious symbols). It is inspired from the traditional doors used in houses of ancient Newari community and the traditional Buddhist houses as well.
It consists of eight auspicious symbols that are; Chattra(Parasol), Suvarnamatsya(Two Fishes), Sankha(Sea shell), Dhavaja(Banner), Srivatsa(Endless knot), Kalasa(Vase), Padma(Lotous), Chamaru (Fly whisk). These are believed to represent the gifts given by celestial beings to Sakyamuni(Buddha) on his attainment of enlightenment of Buddhahood. The Jamb of the window is carved with dragons on the either side of the door and the Elephants are carved on sill of the door.
