Mayadevi Tudal (Strut) pair

  This is a very integral piece of traditional Newari art and architecture carved by one of the most proficient traditional woodcarver of Nepal. The Mayadevi strut is inspired from the struts used in temples to support the roof of the temples and houses.

It is inspired from the prehistoric Newari architectural struts carrying the entire weight of the heavy roofs in the newari structures. The struts are usually carved with different deities and eroticas. Similarly, the Mayadevi strut is carved with Mayadevi(Buddha's Mother) standing on a man and holding the branch of the tree.
